- Phrasal verbler yapı bakımından ayrılabilen (separable), ayrılamayan (inseparable) ve geçişsiz (intransitive) olabilir; bu nedenle “turn it off / turn off the light” ile “look after the kids” gibi kalıplarda nesnenin yeri büyük önem taşır ve anlamı/dilbilgisel doğruluğu doğrudan etkiler.
- Yazı boyunca verilen sık kullanılan phrasal verb listeleri (bring up, call off, carry on, find out, run into, take off, work out, vb.) ve “go / come / on-off / in-out” odaklı alıştırmalar, hem tekrar hem de kullanım pratiği sunarak phrasal verbleri kalıplar hâlinde görüp bağlam içinde pekiştirmenize yardımcı olur.
Uzman Novakid öğretmenimiz Ali Sullivan, phrasal verblerin önemi hakkında aşağıdaki yorumda bulunuyor:
“Phrasal verbler olmadan İngilizce konuşmak mümkün ama kulağa her zaman biraz garip gelir. Günlük hayatta insanlar ‘start working’ demez, ‘get to work’ der.
Örnek: His alarm goes off at 8 am every day. (Alarmı her gün saat 8’de çalar.
Mesela “go” fiili normalde “gitmek” anlamına gelmesine rağmen yukarıdaki örnekte “go off” kalıbı bir alarmın çalması anlamına geliyor. “Go” fiiliyle kurulan phrasal verbler için ilgili içeriğimize göz atabilirsiniz.
Örnek: We need to find out who’s responsible for this. (Bunun sorumlusunu bulmalıyız.)
Bu örnekte “find” (bulmak) fiili “out” edatıyla birleşerek “ortaya çıkarmak, araştırıp bulmak” anlamına gelen “find out” kalıbını oluşturuyor.
İngilizcede ayrılabilen ve ayrılamayan (separable and inseperable) phrasal verbler
Eğer nesne bir zamirse (“you”, “him”, “it” gibi) araya girmek zorundadır. Bazı örnekler:
- Turn off (kapatmak)
Turn off the light.
Turn the light off.
Turn it off.
“Turn off it” ise yanlış bir kullanımdır çünkü ayrılabilen phrasal verblerde zamir sonda kullanılmaz, arada kullanılır.
- Pick up (almak, toplamak, telefonu açmak)
Pick up the phone.
Pick the phone up.
Pick it up.
- Give back (geri vermek)
Give back the book.
Give the book back.
Give it back.
- Fill in (form doldurmak)
Fill in the form.
Fill the form in.
Fill it in.
- Look after (bakmak, gözetlemek)
✅ Look after the kids. (Çocuklara bak.)
❌ Look the kids after.
- Run into (tesadüfen karşılaşmak)
✅ I ran into my teacher.
❌ I ran my teacher into.
- Deal with (ele almak, ilgilenmek)
✅ We must deal with this issue. (Bu konuyu ele almalıyız.)
❌ We must deal this issue with.
- Get over (atlatmak, iyileşmek)
✅ She can’t get over the breakup. (Ayrılığı atlatamıyor.)
❌ She can’t get the breakup over.
Örnek: You win, I give up. (Kazandın, pes ediyorum.)
Örnek: I always wake up at 9 am. (Her zaman saat 9’da uyanırım.)
